Here is what Julie has to say about her boy:
Piney is a sweet, happy, playful boy with springs for legs and a serious passion for fieldwork. He’s animated, enthusiastic, personable, still shows a lot of puppy in his social and play behavior but is all about focus in the field which by his choice is definitely our primary focus.
Some of our field goals and past achievements are:
- Goal is to earn AKC MH & possible HRCH (I’ve even bought my own shotgun to pursue this!)
- Piney earned his JH and WC titles easily
- Earned WCX when just over two years old, on first try.
- First Senior Hunter leg in September at first test; no handles on any of the marks, no handles on either blind (lined both), with just a check whistle to stop him at the birds.
Piney is very impassioned in the field, very highly motivated, strong in the water, very confident and we decheated early -not because he didn’t like water but because he wanted to get to the bird/bumper faster! He possesses very good marking skills, very visually keyed in, naturally very birdy, very fast off the line, very good motivation on blinds and leaves the line at full speed on both marks and blinds. These are a few short clips of Piney doing some steady drills: Video 1 Video 2 Video 3
During the winter months we also participate in obedience and agility. In obedience he loves play training, is fairly food motivated but very toy motivated, and has a strong tug response. In agility he is fearless on contact obstacles, very responsive and athletic.
Structurally Piney is a sound balanced athletic retriever, still maturing / filling out he weighs 73 lbs and stands 23" at the whithers. He has good substance and moves smoothly and effortlessly - strong level topline.
In general Piney is a team player, jumps like a deer and has easily cleared a 4 foot fence. He is sweet and affectionate in a high-energy sort of way, it is difficult to tire him out. He is fun, upbeat, happy active, strong play desire and occasionaly we will notice a startle response but he recovers quickly and that has mostly disappeared as he’s matured. He has no food issues, has a good strong appetite and is physically very confident.
Socially Piney is fairly confident, and ranges from calm to very enthusiastic when greeting new people (especially when competing for attention with the other Golden in the household). He ignores other dogs when he’s in “work” mode, is otherwise generally polite and reserved when first meeting other dogs .
Piney lives with intact male that’s 4 years older than he is (“Traveler,” Gaylan’s One With the Wind UD MH OA NAJ WCX VCX CCA) and here is a short video clip of the two cohorts in action video jailbreak
When not escaping we also enjoy canoe trips and camping with the Golden boys.
